North American Pumpkin Beer Styles are Going World Wide!

It is that time a year again in Southwestern Ontario. Days are getting shorter, nights are getting colder, and there is a blanket of stunning red, gold, and orange still on the trees and in our yards. However, for many the best part of the fall is the return of “everything pumpkin.” This delicious flavor can be found in many products from coffee to muffins, and most importantly to us, in beers!

As with all beer varieties the pumpkin beer ranges in taste and style, but usually includes a nice combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice and ginger. English colonists started using pumpkins for beer making as early as 1771, and today what was once a style exclusive to North America is making its way around the world. In his article for VinePair Evan Rail explores the history of this distinctive beer style and how it is becoming a smashing success in countries such as Germany, Japan, Poland, and the Ukraine.
